Trying to target everyone is one of the fastest ways to stall your business.
It feels safe—but it quietly dilutes everything.
When your message is for everyone, it lands with no one. Not because your offer isn’t valuable, but because it isn’t specific enough to feel relevant.
Clarity creates connection.
Many business owners resist narrowing their focus. It feels like you’re turning people away. In reality, you’re making it easier for the right people to recognize themselves in what you offer.
A niche isn’t a limitation. It’s a lens.
Consider the difference between “homeowners” and “high-income homeowners looking for traditional kitchen and bath remodeling.” One is broad and forgettable. The other is clear, specific, and actionable.
But defining a niche goes deeper than surface traits.
Demographics tell you who your audience is.
Psychographics tell you why they care.
What do they value?
What problems are they trying to solve?
What do they prioritize when making decisions?
This is where real alignment happens.
If your offer emphasizes quality and longevity, it won’t resonate with someone chasing the lowest price. And that’s not a problem—it’s clarity. The goal isn’t to convince everyone. It’s to connect deeply with the right people.
There’s also a practical side to this. A viable niche must be reachable, able to benefit from your offer, and willing and able to invest in it. Without those elements, even the most well-defined audience won’t translate into growth.
And yes, you can serve multiple niches—but only if you treat them distinctly. Each requires its own message, its own understanding, its own approach.
The simplest way to start? Look at your current clients.
Who gets the most value from what you do?
Who do you enjoy working with?
Who sees the result and recognizes its worth?
That’s your signal.
Because success doesn’t come from being everything to everyone.
It comes from being exactly right for someone.
And when you get that right, everything else becomes clearer—from your message to your momentum.
